Serbian Superliga club Kolubara handed nine-point deduction over match-fixing

STARA PAZOVA - Kolubara Lazarevac are practically out of the Serbian football Superliga after being handed a nine-point deduction by the Football Association of Serbia (FSS) over match-fixing and damage to the integrity of matches, the FSS announced on Tuesday.

Relegated Hertha casts envious eyes at Union

Hertha Berlin's 10-season stay in the German Bundesliga ended on May 20 and as it slipped through the relegation trapdoor, it was left to cast envious glances at upwardly-mobile city rival Union.

Hertha only escaped relegation last season by winning a two-legged playoff against Hamburg. It had finished 10th or lower in the four previous seasons.

Bakhar signs three-year contract with Red Star Belgrade

BELGRADE - Israeli coach Barak Bakhar signed a three-year contract with Serbian football powerhouse Red Star Belgrade on Friday.

In a statement published on its website, the club said it was delighted to announce that Bakhar was its new head coach and added that it hoped to achieve "great results" under his stewardship.

Real Madrid pull one back vs Partizan in EuroLeague thriller

BELGRADE - Partizan Belgrade lost 82-80 (19-32, 26-16, 21-15, 16-17) at home to Real Madrid in the third game of the two teams' EuroLeague Basketball quarter-final series on Tuesday evening.

Partizan, who missed the first opportunity to qualify for the EuroLeague Final Four tournament in Kaunas, now lead the series 2-1.
