Actor Stathis Psaltis dies at 66

Greek actor Stathis Psaltis has died at the age of 66 after battling with cancer for a many months. The actor, who was being treated at the intensive care unit of the Saint Savvas hospital in Athens died at 2.25pm, Friday, after the cancer had metastasised from his lungs to other vital organs and doctors were unable to stop its spread.

Soprano Maira Milolidaki, vocalist Thodoris Voutsikakis and pianist Titos Gouvelis will accompany the ensemble, which is led by Stathis Soulis. The concert starts at 8.30 p.m.

Days after Stathis Stivaktakis, a Cretan beekeeper, took to the streets of Athens to complain about the new farm regulations that will crush Greece’s rural sector and social media is still abuzz. The beekeeper’s good looks caught the attention of the ladies and even drew the attention of the BBC and Reuters.

Now, social media has turned its attention to Stathis’ supposed sister:

Social media caught fire when beekeeper Stathis Stivaktakis was immortalized at a farmers’ protest at Syntagma Square. The local female population swooned, but Reuters and the BBC also took notice catapulting the young Cretan to fame.

Farmers demonstrated at Syntagma Square against tax hikes and cuts to agricultural tax exemptions. Photos of one Cretan farmer went viral as the female population went wild. The man – Stathis Stivaktakis – was catapulted to national fame with a hashtags attached to his pics, such as #liveyourmythingreece.

Athens hotel prices soar this month

Online rates for Athens hotels have shown a 30.2 percent annual increase this month, according to a survey comparing double rooms across Europe by online booking service Trivago.

The average price per night amounts to 155 euros, against 119 euros last June, ranking just above the European average.
