TUI expands cooperation with local hotel groups

Leading European tour operator TUI is moving ahead with the creation of more than 10 hotels in Greece in cooperation with local hotel chains Grecotel and Atlantica, with which it has a long history in the joint development of hotel units, according to sources from TUI Hellas. This reflects the growing tourism interest of the group in Greece.

Greek hotels still offer competitive rates in October

Online hotel rates in Greece are recording a significant year-on-year increase this month, according to the Trivago travel website. However, the average cost of staying at a hotel in Greece remain below the average both in Europe and at rival destination countries.
Major rebound for Thessaloniki tourism

Tourism in Thessaloniki has made a major recovery this year, thanks to the rise in both Greek and foreign visitors.
Thessaloniki Hoteliers Association data for the year to end-August showed that the number of overnight stays in the city soared by 17.9 percent from the same period in 2013, to rise from 1,104,941 to 1,302,347.

Foreign and domestic air arrivals rise

Greek Civil Aviation Authority data showed on Monday that air arrivals from abroad at Greek airports posted a 15 percent rise in the first eight months of the year compared to the same period in 2013, reaching 12.13 million, boosted by a rise in visitors from Britain, France and the US.

Tourism accounts for about a fifth of Greek economy

In a message to mark World Tourism Day on Saturday, Association of Hellenic Tourism Enterprises (SETE) president Andreas Andreadis estimated that tourisms contribution to Greeces gross domestic product has risen considerably in 2014 and will come close to 20 percent, from just over 16 percent previously.
Sports events extend season of tourism

Taking care of tourists after Russian operator goes bust

Another Russian tour operator, the St Petersburg-based Solvex-Tourne, went bankrupt on Monday, stranding between 3,000 and 4,000 Russian visitors in Greece without service.
