Hotels hike prices by 10 pct in H1 of 2014

The big increase in the number of tourists visiting Greece has led to a 10 percent hike in hotel rates around the country this year compared with 2013, according to Hotels.com, one of the biggest travel booking websites in the world.

Greece’s allure as a destination spreads to Asia, South America

Thanks to its improved image, Greece seems to be attracting an increasing number of visitors from emerging economies. Furthermore, tourism industry officials say that Brazilians, Koreans, Filipinos, Indians and Mexicans among others often spend more money than those from the so-called traditional origin countries.

Asteras Tripolis sprung a surprise in the Europa League on Thursday, beating German side Mainz 3-1 to advance from the third qualifying round.
The side from the Peloponnese had lost the away leg 1-0 but managed to turn the score around at the Theodoros Kolokotronis stadium.
August 2 expected to be Greek tourism’s D-day

Greece is anticipating travel receipts as high as 6 billion euros over the next two months thanks to the increased tourism activity observed this summer. This means that in August and September the country expects to collect just under 50 percent of the total sum of tourism revenues expected for the entire year.

Major increase in travel receipts, tourism arrivals

Total travel receipts in Greece posted a 17.3 percent increase in the first quarter of the year compared with the same period in 2013, according to data released by the Bank of Greece.
The total came to 471.4 million euros, while the number of visitors from abroad expanded by 15.4 percent to 1.3 million tourists.
TUI and Robinson Club to increase Greek activity

TUI and the Robinson Club are making plans for new investments in their hotels in Greece and are interested in making the most of new destinations within the country, revealed Thomas Ellerbeck, TUIs director of corporate and external affairs, following a general meeting of the German-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Athens.

More growth in tourism from China

Greece is among the main emerging destinations for Chinese tourists, the latest report by Union Pay International has found, including this country among those with an annual growth rate of about 200 percent in arrivals from the Asian nation in the last three years.

Occupancy rate grows at Athens hotels

Athens hotels enjoyed the highest increase on a European level in terms of their average occupancy rate in April, as the latest STR Global report on the continents hotels showed that the Greek capitals rate grew 17.3 percentage points, reaching 64.9 percent.
Notably, Greek Easter was in April this year, while in 2013 it has been in May.
