Buddha statue found in Egypt points to ancient India links

A statue of Buddha has been discovered in Egypt's ancient seaport of Berenice on the Red Sea, shedding light on trade ties with India under the Roman empire.

A Polish-U.S. mission discovered the statue "dating back to the Roman era while digging at the ancient temple in Berenice," an antiquities ministry statement said on April 27.

Goddess statue unearthed in central Turkey

Turkish archeologists in Kültepe have unearthed a goddess statue, claiming it to be "the biggest" so far from the Early Bronze Age in Anatolia.

"We are happy to have found a 45-centimeter-high [17 inches] artifact, a statue. This is a very special piece," Fikri Kulakoğlu, a professor from the Ankara University and head of the excavation team, told Anadolu Agency on Sunday.
