Fanny Ardant’s ‘Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk’ opens in Athens
Award-winning French actress Fanny Ardant directs the Greek National Opera in an ambitious and unconventional production of Dmitri Shostakovich's 'Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk,' which opened at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Athens on Sunday. Based on a novel by Nikolai Leskov, the opera explores a woman's place in provincial pre-revolutionary Russia.

The eccentric Opera Chaotique duo and the renowned Berlin-based Merlin Puppet Theater join forces at the Greek National Opera's Alternative Stage in a subversive reworking of Aristophanes' comedy "The Frogs," for two final performances on Friday and Saturday. In this reworking, Dionysus meets Edgar Allan Poe, Charles Bukowski, Artur Rimbaud and the spirit of Tom Waits.

Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk | Athens | May 12-22

Dance Day | Athens | April 21
