'Minos' brings storms, rain and hail
Clouds gather over the port of Nafplio in the northern Peloponnese on Saturday. A weather system dubbed 'Minos' will hit much of the country over the weekend, bringing rain, thunder and hail. Hot, sunny weather to give way to storms in most parts of Greece
A weather system dubbed Minos by Greek meteorologists is bringing rain, storms and hail to many parts of the country this weekend.
Sweeping in from the west, the system was to hit the islands of the Ionian on Friday, bringing light showers and a drop in temperatures, before spreading east across the rest of Greece.
Motorcyclist killed by lightning strike, police in northern Greece say
Authorities in Greece say a 58-year-old motorcyclist was killed when lightning struck him on a highway.
Police say the man was found dead 40 kilometers east of the northern city of Thessaloniki with a hole in his helmet, presumably the result of the lightning striking him.
The victim was driving toward the city in stormy conditions.
More than 5000 Missiles Were Launched from the Beginning of the Season
From April 24th to May 28th, 101 active anti-hail impacts were conducted, 459 cloud cells were processed with just over 5000 missiles. This was said by the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forests Rumen Porozhanov during Friday's parliamentary scrutiny in response to a question by the MP of the Bulgarian Socialist Party BGP for Bulgaria Rumen Georgiev on anti-flood protection.
