Warsaw: We will Not Comply with the EU Declaration of the Rule of Law
Polish authorities do not believe that the resolution adopted by the European Parliament (EP) on Thursday, which expresses dissatisfaction with Warsaw's actions, which MEPs say is trying to undermine the rule of European law, is binding. This was announced on Friday on Polish Radio by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Piotr Wawczyk.
The MEPs will Meet in Brussels instead of Strasbourg
The leadership of the European Parliament announced that it has decided to schedule a session of MEPs in Brussels instead of Strasbourg from 30 March to 2 April. This decision is taken as a precautionary measure against the spread of the COVID-19 disease.
Five People were Killed in a Fire in a Building in the French City of Strasbourg
Five people were killed today in a fire in a building in the French city of Strasbourg, Reuters reported, citing local authorities.
Seven people were injured and were admitted to hospital.
The fire is under control.
The British Flag Was Removed from the European Institutions
Hours before Brexit the flag of the United Kingdom was taken down in the European institutions in Brussels and Strasbourg.
First, the British flag was taken down in front of the European Council in Brussels and then in front of the European Parliament buildings in Brussels and Strasbourg. Earlier this evening, the European flag was taken down in front of the British Office in the EU.
Hungary’s Varhelyi Cleared for EU Enlargement Post

Mariya Gabriel Answered More Than 50 Questions During Her EP Hearing
Bulgarian Commissioner and candidate for second term Mariya Gabriel answered more than 50 questions during a hearing at the European Parliament in Brussels. MEPs have given excellent ratings to her.
If approved, Maria Gabriel will be in charge of the "Innovation and Youth" portfolio of the new European Commission, which takes office on November 1st.
A Migrant Camp of Over 200 Migrants Was Evacuated in Strasbourg
Police in the French city of Strasbourg have evacuated an illegal migrant camp from eastern Europe, located on the southern outskirts of the city.
According to the authorities, the camp had 134 adults and 74 children, mostly citizens of the former Soviet Union and the Balkan Peninsula.
European Parliament Elections Start Today
Elections for MEPs start today in the Netherlands and the UK. Tomorrow will be voted in Ireland and the Czech Republic, on May 25th in Latvia, Malta and Slovakia. Citizens in the other 21 EU countries will vote on May 26th.
