Korydallos prison guards to join civil servants' strike on Wednesday

Guards at Korydallos Prison are to join the civil servants’ strike planned for Wednesday.

As a result of guards going on strike, prison visits will not take place on that day.

The ADEDY strike is being held in protest at government plans to lay off some 6,500 public sector workers by the end of the year, in line with the troika’s demands.

Civil servants take to streets to protest mobility scheme

The civil servant’s union, ADEDY, is planning a series of protests in several Greek cities on Monday to protest the public sector mobility scheme.

The main demonstration will be at 3 p.m. outside the Finance Ministry in Athens, where some 400 sacked cleaners have been protesting for several weeks.

CHP proposes motion over government's move to postpone Şişecam workers' strike

A lawmaker from the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) has proposed a motion where the postponement of strikes can only be applied in emergency situations.

This came after the government postponed a strike on June 25 by workers of the Şişecam glass factory in Mersin.

Greek civil servants’ union calls strike for July 9

Greek civil servants’ union ADEDY on Thursday called a one-day nationwide strike for July 9 in protest at government plans to lay off some 6,500 public sector workers by the end of the year, in line with the troika’s demands.

ADEDY added that several protest rallies have been planned across the country on June 30.

Civil service union calls walkout at noon Wednesday

The union representing Greece's civil servants, ADEDY, has announced a nationwide walkout starting at noon on Wednesday and has called on public sector workers to gather outside the Health Ministry in central Athens before marching to the Ministry of Administrative Reform.

The march is expected to disrupt traffic in downtown Athens.

Bulgaria's Prison Guards Ready to Go On Strike

The trade union of the prison guards in Bulgaria is ready to announce a general strike of its members, its leader Ivan Petrov told the bTV national channel. 

“We are seeking solutions to the problems of those working in the prisons and are preparing a petition for changing the work shifts from 24-hour to 12-hour,” Petrov said.
