Intensified police checks are being carried out across Europe on 21st of September - the European Day without a Road Death.

A large-scale operation is organized by the Trafic Police in South-West Bulgarian city of Blagoevgrad. Larger number of traffic police teams will patrol on Struma motorway, main road E-79 and the villages and towns in Blagoevgrad district.

Bulgaria has started work on a 12.6km section of ''Struma'' motorway between the southwestern towns of Blagoevgrad and Krupnik.

A consortium led by Bulgarian construction company Agromah is building the section under a contract worth just over EUR 71 million, according to the regional development ministry.

Work is scheduled to end in August 2019.

Public discussion of the Struma highway route will take place in Simitli and Kresna. Local residents will say their opinion on the 5th proposed option - how to cross the highway in the section from Krupnik to Kresna, informs BNT.

MPs from the Environment and Water Committee will discuss the veto that President Rumen Radev has imposed on amendments to the Environmental Act, Nova TV reported.

The proposals envisaged the removal of the second instance court when appealing the assessment of the environmental impact of sites of national importance.

Tomorrow a public procurement will be announced for the construction of the tunnel "Zheleznitsa" of Struma Motorway. The procurement will be divided into three lots - one for the construction of road facilities, asphalt works for 2 km before the tunnel and the underground facility itself, announced the Minister of Regional Development Nikolay Nankov.

The construction of Struma motorway between the towns of Blagoevgrad and Krupnik in southwestern Bulgaria will be launched this week, the regional development ministry said on Thursday, reported bTV. 

If until 2019 we do not start the construction of Struma Highway in the Kresna Gorge, there is a risk of losing European funding for the project and having to finish it with budget funds and that is irresponsible. This was stated by the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Nikolay Nankov.

The van, with a Romanian registration carrying nearly one ton of carp, crashed on the night of Thursday at the entrance of the Struma tunnel at Kocherinovo station. There are no injured in the accident, but traffic on the motorway is difficult, reported BGNews.

Third incident on the Struma highway took place yesterday, late at night and the highway was temporarily closed from Boboshevo to Kocherinovo junction due to a damaged truck and the relocation of its cargo., reported bTV.

Heavy goods vehicle caught fire on Struma motorway near the village of Mursalevo early in the morning on 1st of August, reported the Bulgarian National Television.
