Türkiye has held two-phase university exams over the weekend, with officials saying that the results will be announced on July 20.

Over 3 million students attended the first one on June 18 and some 2 million on June 19.

Local officials across the country took high security measures around the schools where the exams were sat.

The Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) will no longer have a threshold starting from this year, according to a decision by Turkey's Council of Higher Education (YÖK).

The decision concerns 2.5 million students preparing for university entrance exams. The placement score will be calculated by adding the secondary education success score to the exam score of candidates.

Over 2.5 million Turkish students will take the country's national university entrance exams this weekend, the head of Turkey's examination body said on June 13.

A number of radical changes regarding entrance to universities in Turkey are on the way, with the announcement that 10 universities in the country have been determined as research-focused universities and that the current university entrance exam system will be completely changed. 

Ömer Demir, the head of the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), announced his resignation on Aug. 21.

The Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) apologized on Aug. 12 for a calculation mistake in the placement scores of candidates entering Turkey's national university entrance exam, which had led to the incorrect placement of over 1,000 people.

Over half of the students who entered Turkey's national university exam this year did not fill out the necessary application form indicating which university they wished to be placed in, according to the student selection and placement results announced late on Aug. 8.

The results of the second round of Turkey's national university exam LYS revealed on July 12 that female students were more successful than their male counterparts as in previous years, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.  

The average of mathematics scores of students who took the University Entrance Examination (YGS) has dropped to a five-year low, according to statistics released by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). 

More than 2.2 million students across Turkey will enter the University Entrance Examination (YGS) on March 12, vying to secure a place in the country's top universities.

According to the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), some 2,265, 902 students will take the exam, up from the 2,178,563 who took the test last year.
