Refugee crisis: 566 new arrivals in just four days!
A new increase of the refugees and illegal immigrants in Lesvos, Chios and Samos from Thursday to Monday. In total 566 new arrivals have been recorded making the number of people trapped in the Aegean Sea islands climb to 8.759!
Sharp increase in migrants reaching Aegean islands from Turkey
New arrivals to the eastern Aegean islands of Lesvos, Chios and Samos have raised the number of migrants landing in Greece from neighboring Turkey since last Thursday to 566, government figures showed on Monday.
The figure represents a significant increase compared to arrivals in the rest of March and for the whole of February.
Search is under way for mother of fetus found in garbage
Investigators said on Tuesday the human fetus discovered in a bag at a local garbage sorting facility at Girtoni in Larissa, central Greece, on Monday had been transferred there with garbage from the nearby town of Elassona, and are focusing their search for the mother there.
Skouries trial put off until November
The trial of 21 people who have been accused of taking part in an arson attack on a gold mine in Halkidiki, northern Greece, four years ago has been put off until November.
A Thessaloniki court on Monday accepted the request for a postponement by a lawyer representing some of the defendants due to health problems.

Four Turks being detained on Chios to seek political asylum
Four Turkish nationals who arrived on the Aegean islet of Panagia, one of the Oinousses cluster, last Friday are expected to seek political asylum.
The four men, all of Kurdish descent, are said to have expressed fear for their lives if returned to Turkey.
A fifth man from Afghanistan arrived on the island with the four Turkish Kurds.
Mayors announce 50 million euros in EU refugee aid
The mayors of Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Leros and Kos - the five eastern Aegean islands worst hit by the refugee crisis - secured a European Union pledge of 50 million euros in emergency assistance during their recent trip to Brussels, they told reporters in Athens on Thursday.

Teacher on Crete gets 54-year sentence for child abuse
A 53-year-old teacher who molested an 8-year-old girl on the island of Crete has been sentenced to 54 years in prison.
The 53-year-old was arrested in February after a report by the girl's parents.
Another 13 cases emerged after that.
The Ierapetra court found him guilty in a total of four cases. He is expected to serve 25 years.
Girl, 14, killed in Imathia road accident
A 14-year-old girl was killed Friday night in a road accident in Alexandreia, Imathia, in northern Greece, police said.
The incident, which took place at 8 p.m. on Friday, occurred when the 18-year-old driver lost control of his car and rammed into the victim.
The girl was pronounced dead at the local hospital.

Greek police reel in nationwide ring of loan sharks
Six suspects were arrested over the weekend as police in Ioannina, northwestern Greece, dismantled a usury racket.
Police said they arrested five Greeks and one Bulgarian national during separate operations in Ioannina, Arta, Thessaloniki, Xylokastro and Vrachati in the Peloponnese.
The alleged ringleader is also under arrest, authorities said.
Mother in Chalkida alleges she was gang-raped by masked men
Greek police have involved in a month-long investigation examining allegations of a 45-year-old Greek woman who claimed she had been gang-raped by three masked men in Chalkida, Euboea. Accompanied by her husband the woman reported the alleged incident to police on February 5, alleging she had been attacked and raped by three men wearing masks on the same day while walking alone in the street.
