Sofia, Varna Property Prices Rise, Still Well Below Pre-Crisis Peaks

Property prices in Sofia and Varna last month were higher than they were a year earlier but still well below the pre-crisis peaks of 2008, a real estate consultant has said.

According to the latest price index update compiled by Bulgarian Properties firm, August prices in Sofia were 0.92% higher than a year earlier, while those in Varna were up 13.3%.

Bulgarian Hoteliers Stage Protest to Demand Separate Tourism Ministry

Bulgarian hoteliers will stage a protest Wednesday at a section of the Burgas- Sunny Beach near Aheloy to demand a separate ministry of tourism and a solution to a number of other problems.

"Tourism is a fundamental sector of Bulgarian economy," said Sunny Beach owners' union chairperson Elena Ivanova, as cited by the Bulgarian National Radio.

Heavy Traffic Jams Along Bulgaria's Southern Black Sea Coast

A nearly 7-km-long traffic jam has clogged the roads between Bulgaria's Black Sea towns of Pomorie and Aheloy on Friday afternoon.

It takes as long as an hour to travel the distance, Bulgaria's National Radio (BNR) reports. Kilometers-long traffic jam was also generated in the opposite direction - from Sunny Beach resort to Aheloy.

Sunny Beach Again Is the Cheapest Resort for Brits

Bulgaria's seaside resort Sunny Beach is again the cheapest beach resort for Brits, shows a survey of the British daily Telegraph and Post Office's Holiday Costs Barometer. 

According to the newspaper, one day in Sunny Beach, including 10 tourist staples, including meals and drinks and sunscreen would cost GBP 43.26. 

Sunny Beach Hotel Owners Demand Stiff Fines for Balconing

The Union of hotel owners in Sunny Beach demands that the state introduces fines for balconing. 

Last summer in result of jumping from the hotel balcony into the swimming pool or between balconies, in the Black Sea resort died several foreign tourists. 

The hotel owners propose that the fine be at least EUR 300 and be imposed by police.
