"Today I received the invitation letter and the order to appear before the high prosecutor of the Specialist Prosecutor's Office in The Hague, on March 12, 2019," Kuci wrote in a statement sent to local media on Thursday.

He added that he will "fulfil the obligation and will respond to this order".

A Serb was detained in a village near the Kosovo town of Suhareka/Suva Reka on war crimes charges, sparking allegations of persecution from officials in Belgrade.

The Kosovo police have used their special forces to arrest a 74-year-old displaced Serb from Sopina, in Suva Reka, Tanjug reported on Monday.

Bogdan Mitrovic was taken from a group of about 50 Serbs visiting the homes they had to abandon in the village, and the demolished Serbian Orthodox Church in Musutiste, RTS said.

The Suhareka/Suva Reka municipal assembly declared that Serb families should not return to the village of Mushtisht/Mustiste, the focus of recent protests about wartime crimes.

On the 17th anniversary of the killings of 48 Kosovo Albanians in Suhareka/Suva Reka, campaigners walked from downtown Belgrade to the suburb of Batajnica, where the bodies were found in 2001.

Two underage girls are thought to have been sexually abused by members of the Kosovo police when they went missing for a week in early June, with sources close to the family fearing that those involved are trying to cover up the case.
