A rising proponent of the footwork genre of music and street dance that originated in Chicago during the 1990s, Indiana-based composer and producer Jlin is coming to Greece for the first time, for an appearance at St Paul's Anglican Church.

Athens metro station closed after suicide

The operator of the Athens metro has said that it shut down the station at Panepistimio in the city center following a suicide.

Initial reports said a man threw himself onto the tracks in front of an incoming train.

Line 2 of the metro will run from Anthoupoli to Metaxourgio and from Syntagma to Elliniko until the station is reopened.

Macron ends Greek visit with surprise stroll through town

Wrapping up a visit to Greece, French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, departed from the official program Friday to stroll down a crowded central Athens shopping street, delighting selfie-thirsty pedestrians but inconveniencing those unfortunate enough to get stuck in the ensuing traffic jams.

UNICEF bazaar promotes children's right to education

Ahead of the start of the new school year on September 11, many young students headed to Syntagma metro station in central Athens on Monday to pick up school supplies at a bazaar organized by UNICEF with the aim of promoting the right to education of children around the world. The event, which began Monday and will last until Friday, also includes a photo exhibition about UNICEF's work.

The Athens State Orchestra, with vocalists Vasia Zaharopoulou and Spyros Kleissas, will perform popular songs from musicals at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center on Saturday, August 26. The show is free of charge and starts at 8.30 p.m. A free shuttle bus service runs between Syntagma Square and the SNFCC throughout the day, stopping at the Syngrou-Fix metro station.

Louis Malle | Athens | August 18

Louis Malle's 1958 noir classic "Ascenseur pour l'echafaud" (Elevator to the Gallows), about a planned murder gone wrong, will be screened as part of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center's Park Your Cinema program on Friday, August 18. Admission to the screening, which starts at 9 p.m., is free of charge. The film is in French and will be accompanied by Greek subtitles.
