Syria–Turkey relations

At any moment, Turkey could launch an "air and ground military operation" east of the Euphrates River in Syria, where Washington and Ankara plan to establish a security zone. This was stated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Reuters reported.

At least six people died when a military vehicle carrying irregular migrants overturned in Hatay, a southern Turkish province bordering Syria, the local governorate said.         

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday that a planned "safe zone" in northern Syria could host 2-3 million Syrian refugees that have settled in Turkey and Europe after eight years of war at home.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan continued with his threats to "open the gates" to a new wave of refugees into Europe, warning on Sunday that some 5.5 million migrants would stream across the Turkish border unless Turkey is given international support and a safe zone is set up in northern Syria. 

Turkey plans to resettle 1 million refugees in northern Syria and may reopen the route for migrants into Europe if it does not receive adequate international support for the plan, President Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday.

Turkish President Erdogan threatens to send a new wave of refugees to the European Union if his country does not receive additional international aid. Erdogan said his country's determination to begin building a security zone in Syria by the end of September.

Syrians alone in Turkey are over 3.5 million and Ankara is pushing for a security zone in Syria to relocate 1 million.

Turkey on July 23 marked the 80th anniversary of the reunion of its southern province of Hatay with the national borders.

Police detained 16 people for their suspected links to July 5's explosion in the southern Hatay province of Turkey, local governorate said on July 7.           

Yusuf Nazik, a key plotter of the 2013 attack in Reyhanlı district of Turkey's southern Hatay province, was handed down 53 aggravated life terms by a court on May 13.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says his country is "stubbornly" pursuing European Union membership despite efforts in some circles to keep Turkey out of "the European family."
