Lesvos doctors accuse NGOs of failing to care for refugees

State hospital doctors on the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos, which has been hard particularly hit by the refugee crisis, have complained that nongovernmental organizations receiving European Union funding to help migrants are not doing enough, resulting in them being forced to bear an excessive burden.

Mitsotakis decries state of Moria refugee camp on visit to Lesvos

The leader of opposition New Democracy, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, on Friday decried the state of the Moria refugee camp on Lesvos during a visit to the eastern Aegean island.

Mitsotakis met with representatives of the local community and residents and sought to encourage them that the refugee crisis will eventually abate and their village return to normal.

Greece plans migrant detention camps on islands

Greece's migration minister said the government planned to build detention camps on islands facing Turkey's coastline, as overcrowding at existing facilities for migrants continues to rise.

Migration Minister Yannis Mouzalas said Dec. 28 that detention sites with capacity for up to 200 people would be erected to speed up the asylum claims process and reduce crime.
