Hearing Postponed: North Macedonia Telecoms Scandal Ten Years in Court

The alleged wrongdoing went back even further than 2011.

MakTel once dominated the mobile market in North Macedonia, operating since 2001 as a joint venture between the state and Magyar Telekom, the Hungarian subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom. Its only competitor was the far smaller Cosmote network.

Ericsson to supply Cosmote with 5G equipment

Cosmote is Greece's first mobile communications provider to prepare for the 5G era via a network upgrade contract it is to sign soon with Sweden's Ericsson.

The estimated €170 million contract, expected to be signed early January, includes both fourth- and fifth-generation equipment. It involves upgrading existing base stations and antennas across Greece as well as creating new ones.

Bulgarian Businessman Spas Rusev Targets Telekom Romania after Albania

The Bulgarian entrepreneur Spas Rusev has confirmed he is in talks to buy Telekom Romania.

Speaking to Capital, he added that because of the size of the possible transaction he is undertaking it with a partner.

Furthermore, he will at a future date also enter into talks to buy the Macedonian incumbent.

Cosmote named fastest mobile network in Greece

Cosmote has been named the fastest network for mobile internet in Greece again this year, taking the title for "Greece's Fastest Mobile Network 2018" in the SpeedTest Awards presented by Ookla, a global leader in internet testing and analysis.

The Cosmote mobile network's download speed is 68 percent faster than the second-placed provider.

Greece seeks adviser for OTE stake sale

Greece is seeking a financial adviser for the sale of a 5 percent stake in its biggest telecoms operator OTE, its privatization agency (TAIPED) said on Thursday.

The sale is a condition of Greece's international bailout.

OTE, a former national monopoly, is now 40 percent owned and managed by Germany's Deutsche Telekom.
