Millions of Taiwanese voted Saturday for a new president in the face of threats from China that choosing the wrong leader could set the stage for war on the self-ruled island.

China's armed forces have simulated precision strikes against Taiwan on the second day of Chinese military exercises around the island. Taiwan's Ministry of Defense reported numerous flights by the Chinese air force, as well as monitoring China's missile forces, Reuters reported.

He also pointed to the common origin of the two peoples.
"We are all Chinese," Ma said Tuesday in Nanjing, where he spoke in front of the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum. "The people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are Chinese and both are descendants of the Yan and Yellow Emperors", he added.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Sunday promised "peaceful reunification" with Taiwan and decisive steps against Taiwanese independence, and Taipei responded that Beijing must respect the Taiwanese people's commitment to democracy and freedom, Reuters reported.

China is upping the ante against Taiwan amid another US congressional delegation visit to the self-governed island.

This is happening a day after the visit of the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the US Congress, Nancy Pelosi, to Taipei, the world media reported, referring to the report of the state television CCTV.

Chinese military exercises near Taiwan are targeted at forces promoting the island's formal independence and are a "just" move to protect peace and stability, China's Taiwan Affairs Office said on Oct. 13.

It also said the exercises are aimed at interference by external forces.

Kuo-cheng also warned that China could be able to invade Taiwan in 2025. Earlier, China sent a "record number" of fighter jets into Taiwanese airspace, for the fourth day in a row.

U.S. President Joe Biden said on Oct. 5 that he has spoken to Chinese President Xi Jinping about Taiwan and they agreed to abide by the Taiwan agreement, as tensions have ratcheted up between Taipei and Beijing.

China back 'raging' to United States of America,  The country strongly condemned US in a statement calling it a security risk in the region.

This happened after a US warship sailed through a sensitive route, the Strait of Taiwan. The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur transits the strait Tuesday (22/6/2021).
