The Taliban will pretend to look like a good boy to the international community to keep control of war-torn Afghanistan and its collapsed economy, a Turkish international relations professor has said.

The EU will have to talk with the Taliban after the group seized control of Afghanistan before officially recognising them, foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said after online meeting of EU foreign ministers.

"The Taliban have won the war, so we will have to talk with them," he pointed out, while stressing this does not mean moving quickly to official recognition. 

China is looking to fill political and security void in the region after the US troops and the West left Afghanistan, for which it had long been prepared, writes Jessica Taneja.

As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, such a committment is not even foreseen by this statement.

As the Taliban is gaining ground in Afghanistan by capturing many key cities in the country, the terror group is now forcing women to get married to its terrorists. Afghans pouring into Kabul and those still in Taliban-held areas say they have witnessed unprovoked attacks on civilians and executions of captured soldiers.

Montenegro will not host any Afghan refugees fleeing the country after the Taliban took control of Kabul, Montenegro's Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

After Serbia's former foreign minister Ivica Dacic on Tuesday claimed that Serbia had hosted talks between the now former Afghan government and the Taliban three times in recent years, the director of East-West Bridge think tank - which reportedly organised the negotiations - told BIRN that Dacic's information was accurate, backing it up with photos from the meetings.

Turkey has taken all necessary measures for the safety of the Turkish troops based in the Kabul international airport, the defense minister has said, informing that they are ready to implement contingency plans if the conditions in the field change in Afghanistan.
