President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan congratulated Saudi Arabia's new crown prince Mohamed bin Salman in a telephone call early on June 22, with the two men expressing a desire for stronger ties between their countries, according to presidential sources.  
      

In a phone call on June 16 with Qatari and French leaders, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan urged dialogue to help resolve the Gulf crisis over Qatar, according to a presidential source.

In a trilateral conversation with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and French President Emmanuel Macron, Erdoğan brought up recent issues in the Gulf, said the source.

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu will visit Mecca on June 16 and meet Saudi Arabian King Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud as part of Turkey's efforts to calm down the ongoing crisis between Qatar and other Gulf countries. 

Çavuşoğlu will share "Turkey's sincere opinion" regarding the crisis during his visit to Mecca, he said in Kuwait on June 16 after talks in Qatar on June 15.

The crisis between Qatar and some Arab countries should be resolved "through peace and dialogue," Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said June 14.

There is a big potential to improve economic relations between Turkey and Qatar, the cousin of Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and the chairman of a large company has told daily Hürriyet, adding that the Gulf country is looking to conduct more investments in the Turkish market. 

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu visited Qatar on June 14 amid regional tensions between Gulf states.

He was accompanied by Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday slammed the economic and political isolation of Qatar as inhumane and contrary to Islamic values after key Gulf states broke off ties with Ankara's ally, AFP reported.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has urged Saudi Arabian King Salman, the elder statesman in the Gulf region, to take the lead in resolving the ongoing crisis over Qatar.

"I think that as the elder statesman of the Gulf, the king of Saudi Arabia should solve this affair and show leadership," Erdoğan told members of his party in parliament on June 13.
