The foreign ministers of Slovenia, Croatia and Italy signed a declaration in the Italian city of Ancona on 10 July committing to enhancing cooperation in the management and protection of the North Adriatic, including with a view to preventing migrant boat tragedies.

Slovenia being elected to the UN Security Council in 2024-2025 is proof that the country is a constructive and responsible player in the global arena, senior Slovenian officials said on 12 June as they laid out the priorities the country will pursue.

The Foreign Ministry has summoned the Russian ambassador after the indictment against two alleged Russian spies who were apprehended in Slovenia in December last year became final and the pair were remanded in custody.

Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob underlined his choice of Bosnia-Herzegovina for his first official visit abroad by announcing in Sarajevo on 13 March that Slovenia wanted to be Bosnia's strongest ally. Golob pledged extensive technical support in Bosnia's EU membership efforts, speaking of a historic opportunity in the face of a changed attitude to enlargement.

The aspiration for Slovenia to take on a more prominent role on the global stage, also in view of its bid for the UN Security Council, and a shift of focus back to the core Europe headlined discussions at the annual meeting of Slovenian diplomats at Brdo pri Kranju.

Prague – Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon has welcomed the decision by EU foreign ministers to suspend a 2007 visa facilitation deal with Russia as a measure that “clearly speaks to our determination to condemn Russia’s unacceptable aggression.”
