Slovenian MEP praise joint vaccine procurement, sceptical about vaccination passport

Ljubljana – Slovenian MEPs expressed support for the joint procurement of coronavirus vaccines by the EU for member states at a debate organised by the European Parliament’s Office on Friday, but they were more reserved when it comes to the idea of a health passport for those who have already been vaccinated.

Ljubljana – There are high hopes for relaunching transatlantic relations after Joe Biden’s win in the US presidential election, a debate held by the European Parliament Information Office in Slovenia heard on Tuesday. Participants said that respect for human rights, the rule of law and liberal democracy was again becoming key on both sides of the Atlantic.

Govt nominates Lenarčič for Slovenia's European commissioner

The cabinet backed Lenarčič, put forward on Wednesday as an independent expert by Prime Minister Marjan Šarec without prior consultation with coalition partners, in a 13:3 vote.

It was the three ministers from the ranks of the SocDems who voted against, which is in keeping with the junior coalition party's criticism of Šarec picking Lenarčič instead of SocDem MEP Tanja Fajon.

Kosovo Leaders Hail EP Vote on Visa Liberalisation

In a landmark development for Kosovo, the European Parliament's Committee for Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, LIBE, on Thursday voted decisively in favour of Kosovo having a visa-free regime with the European Union's passport-free Schengen area.

Thirty members of the committee voted in favour, ten against and two abstained.
