Serbia women's volleyball team defeated by Italy in Olympic quarter-final

PARIS - The Serbia women's national volleyball team lost 26-24, 25-20, 25-20 to Italy in the quarter-finals of the Paris Olympics on Tuesday evening.

Tijana Boskovic led the scoring for Serbia with 19 points, while Paola Egonu scored 19 points for Italy, which will face Turkey in the semi-finals.

The other semi-final fixture is USA vs Brazil.

BELGRADE - Serbian Deputy PM and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic met with Austrian Federal Interior Minister Gerhard Karner in Belgrade on Tuesday.

A bilateral meeting of Serbian and Austrian delegations followed, with Austrian Ambassador to Belgrade Christian Ebner and Serbian Ambassador to Vienna Marko Blagojevic also in attendance.

Djokovic beats Alcaraz in historic final to win Olympic gold

PARIS - Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic won the gold medal at the Paris Olympics after a 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-2) victory over Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in the men's singles final on Sunday afternoon.

Djokovic, who won the match after two hours and 52 minutes of play, is now 4-3 head-to-head against Alcaraz.

Vojvodina knocked out by Ajax in UEFA Europa League qualifiers

BACKA TOPOLA - Serbian football club Vojvodina Novi Sad lost 3-1 to Ajax Amsterdam in the second leg of the two teams' UEFA Europa League qualifying tie in Backa Topola, northern Serbia, on Thursday evening.

Josip Sutalo (53 min), Jorrel Hato (85 min) and Bertrand Traore (90+2 min) provided the goal for Ajax, while Lazar Nikolic netted for Vojvodina in the 59th minute.

Vucic receives farewell visit from Israeli ambassador

BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic received a farewell visit from Israeli Ambassador to Belgrade Yahel Vilan on Thursday.

Vucic noted that, more than ever before, all countries of the world must invest maximum efforts to find solutions for achieving sustainable peace to the benefit of all people who looked to the future with great concern.
