Djokovic beats Alcaraz in historic final to win Olympic gold

PARIS - Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic won the gold medal at the Paris Olympics after a 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-2) victory over Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in the men's singles final on Sunday afternoon.

Djokovic, who won the match after two hours and 52 minutes of play, is now 4-3 head-to-head against Alcaraz.

Vojvodina knocked out by Ajax in UEFA Europa League qualifiers

BACKA TOPOLA - Serbian football club Vojvodina Novi Sad lost 3-1 to Ajax Amsterdam in the second leg of the two teams' UEFA Europa League qualifying tie in Backa Topola, northern Serbia, on Thursday evening.

Josip Sutalo (53 min), Jorrel Hato (85 min) and Bertrand Traore (90+2 min) provided the goal for Ajax, while Lazar Nikolic netted for Vojvodina in the 59th minute.

Serbia outclasses Japan in pre-Olympic basketball friendly

BELGRADE  - The Serbia men's national basketball team outclassed Japan 119-100 in a pre-Olympic friendly game at the Belgrade Arena on Sunday evening.

Nikola Jokic led Serbia to victory with 18 points and six assists, Filip Petrusev scored 17 points, captain Bogdan Bogdanovic had 15 points and eight assists and Ognjen Dobric and Vasilije Micic added 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Dacic: Killer of police officer shot dead by police

BELGRADE - Serbian Deputy PM and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said on Friday a man who had killed one police officer and wounded another in Loznica, western Serbia, on Thursday had been shot dead by police.

"Police officers have liquidated the killer of the policeman in the vicinity of Loznica," Dacic said in an Interior Ministry statement before heading to the city.
