The Original of Bulgaria's First Constitution will be Displayed in Parliament

The original of the Turnovo and the Silver Constitution, as well as the personal belongings of Petko Slaveikov will be displayed in the National Assembly. The exhibition is dedicated to 140 years from the adoption of the first Bulgarian Constitution, reports BNT. 

The New Session of the National Assembly Began

Traditionally, the first session of the National Assembly was opened with the Bulgarian and EU anthems. Parliamentary groups are due to come up with declarations for the new political season.

National Assembly President Tsveta Karayancheva wished the MPs a full and effective parliamentary activity, which is part of the efforts to ensure the prosperity of the country and its citizens.

Bulgaria Marks 139 Years Since the Adoption of the Tarnovo Constitution

Today marks 139 years since the adoption of the Tarnovo Constitution. On April 16 1879 the Constituent Assembly in the city Veliko Tarnovo, Central Northern Bulgaria, adopted the first basic law of the Principality of Bulgaria formed after the country's liberation from Turkish rule in 1878, quoted by BNR.

Bulgarian Parliament to Mark 135th Anniversary of Tarnovo Constitution

Bulgaria's Parliament will hold a ceremonial sitting to mark the 135th anniversary of the adoption of the Tarnovo Constitution.

The Tarnovo Constitution was Bulgaria's first Constitution. It was adopted on April 16, 1879 by the Constituent National Assembly held in the city of Veliko Tarnovo. It remained in effect until December 4, 1947, with amendments in 1893 and 1911.
