Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides on Monday extended his congratulations to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his re-election and emphasized Cyprus' preparedness to resume discussions on the Cyprus issue, picking up from where they left off in Crans-Montana in 2017.

Leaders from across the globe took to social media to extend their congratulations to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as he secured his reelection in the presidential runoff election.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan thanked supporters on May 28 as the vote count has neared end, with unofficial results showing him leading in runoff.

"We will be ruling the country for the coming five years," Erdoğan told his cheering supporters from atop a bus in his home district in Istanbul. "God willing, we will be deserving of your trust."

Ahead of Sunday's election in Greece's eastern neighbor across the Aegean, messages from Turkey arriving in Athens in recent days indicate additional reductions in military exercises.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said Victory Party leader Sinan Oğan's support for the runoff election did not come over a bargain for a post for the latter, underlining that his government is mulling over establishing a Disaster Ministry as Oğan has promised for his supporters.

"Our priority is to erase the traces of the earthquake as soon as possible and revive our cities," President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on May 20 during a visit to earthquake-hit province of Adıyaman.

"With the strength I have derived from affection, I have spent my whole political life to serve our nation. I became Mayor of Istanbul, Prime Minister and President of Türkiye, but I have never given up this quest, this determination,"President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on May 19.

Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias has expressed his hope that Turkey will relinquish its revisionist aspirations and actively participate in a meaningful dialogue aimed at resolving lingering disputes with Greece. 

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has expressed on May 16 that he is confident of having more votes in the presidential runoff on May 28.

"May 28 will be very, very different. This will be a signal. I think we will wake up on May 29 very differently. I believe we will get a lot of votes," Erdoğan said in a televised interview with CNN Turk and Kanal D.

Azerbaijani President İlham Aliyev has called President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to congratulate him for the May 14 elections that pledged a majority to Erdoğan-led People's Alliance at the parliament while bringing the presidential race to the second round.

A statement from the president's office informed that Aliyev and Erdoğan spoke over the phone in the early hours of May 15.
