The Turkish corvette TCG Kınalıada embarks on an expedition to the Far East on April 8, retracing the route of the ill-fated frigate Ertuğrul, which sank en route from Japan in 1890.

The voyage also marks the centennial milestone of diplomatic ties between Türkiye and Japan.

The government takes firm steps towards making Türkiye fully independent in its defense industry targets, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on April 10, vowing that the country will become the leader of game-changing technologies in the world thanks to TCG Anadolu.

Greek fighter jets have harassed a Turkish research ship in the international waters of the Aegean Sea, and the provocation was reciprocated accordingly, the Turkish defense minister announced on Feb. 23.

A Turkish minesweeping ship passed through the Isthmus of Corinth on Sunday, according to a video posted on the internet by local media. 

The TCG Anamur can be seen in the video crossing through the channel as crowds of locals and tourists look on.  

A Turkish naval frigate responded to an emergency call from a Greek registered merchant vessel in the Indian Ocean late on Sept. 7, the Turkish Naval Forces has said.        

According to a statement, the call came from the Greek ship "Aegean Angel" to the Turkish frigate TCG Giresun for the Greek ship's injured crew.      

Turkey's first locally-made flagship, recently named "TCG Anadolu," is set to sail in 2021, Turkish daily Milliyet has reported. 

TCG Anadolu, which is currently being constructed at Sedef Shipbuilding in Istanbul, will become the "mother ship" of Turkey's navy as its largest and most well-equipped warship.
