Police crack down on workers protesting at Energy Ministry in Ankara

Police attacked workers with tear gas and water cannon in an effort to disperse employees at the Yatağan thermal plant who chained themselves to the front of the Energy Ministry in Ankara on May 30 to demonstrate against the privatization of their workplace. Several people were also reportedly detained.

Google opens path in Europe for being 'forgotten'

Google began late Thursday letting people in Europe formally request to be "forgotten" by the world's leading Internet search service.
      
The move came just weeks after the European Court of Justice ruled that individuals have the right to have links to information about them deleted from searches under certain circumstances, such as it being outdated or inaccurate.

Number of Bulgarian Media Increasing, Mostly Online

The number of media in Bulgaria has increased by 58.7% in the period 2008-2012, the National Statistics Institute (NSI) revealed.

The highest increase is noted in the online news websites, which grew by 248.7% for the 4-year period. Meanwhile, there is a drop in the television enterprises, by 24.6%, and in radio, by 3.5%.

Turkish Parliament’s filter denies access to church’s website due to ‘pornographic’ content

Parliament’s Internet filter system has blocked the website of a Protestant church in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır due to pornographic content, according to the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) Bursa deputy Aykan Erdemir.

EU values Greece’s role in energy autonomy

After meeting with Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, European Commissioner for Energy Guenther Oettinger said on Wednesday that the two men had discussed the “important role that Greece will play in the European gas strategy,” as Brussels prepares its strategy for the European Union’s energy autonomy, which will include stress tests for member states.
