Tennis-Serbian pair misses chance, India cuts lead to 2-1

BANGALORE - India's Rohan Bopanna and Leander Paes defeated Nenad Zimonjic and Ilija Bozoljac 1-6, 7-6 (4-7), 6-3, 6-3, 8-6 in doubles in Bangalore Saturday, cutting Serbia's lead in the Davis Cup World Group Play-Off rubber to 2-1.

Sunday will see two singles matches, where Serbia's Dusan Lajovic and Filip Krajinovic will face India's Somdev Devvarman and Yuki Bhambri, respectively.

Serbia takes 2-0 lead over India in Davis Cup

BANGALORE - Serbia is within easy reach of survival in the Davis Cup World Group, since it has a 2-0 lead over India after the first day of the 2014 Play-Offs rubber on Friday.

Serbia was given a 1-0 lead by Dusan Lajovic, who defeated Yuki Bhambri 6-3, 6-2, 7-5, and it was increased by Filip Krajinovic beating Somdev Devvarman 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Tipsarevic recovers well after new surgery

BELGRADE - Serbian tennis player Janko Tipsarevic is recovering well after surgery to a benign tumor in his left foot.

The heel injury has kept the former World No. 8 away from tennis for 11 months. As the various treatments he had received did not have the desired effect, he finally resorted to surgery in June. After the recovery, however, the injury came back.

Jovanovski through to Tashkent Open semifinals

TASHKENT - Serbia's Bojana Jovanovski secured her spot in the semifinals of the WTA tournament in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, after defeating Poland's Urszula Radwanska, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 on Thursday.

Jovanovski will fight for a place in the final against home favorite Nigina Abduraimova, which beat her compatriot Akgul Amanmuradova 6-3, 6-3.

Krunic, Siniakova reach doubles semis in Tashkent

TASHKENT - Aleksandra Krunic of Serbia and Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic advanced to the semifinals of the doubles event at the Tashkent Open WTA Championships, after beating Lara Arruabarrena of Spain and Mandy Minella of Luxembourg 6-7 (7-5), 3-6, 10-2 on Thursday.

Krunic and Siniakova will next face Akgul Amanmuradova from Uzbekistan and Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine.

Đoković to miss Davis Cup tie against India

BELGRADE -- Despite earlier announcements, world No. 1 tennis player Novak Đoković will not play for Serbia in the Davis Cup tie against India next week.

Serbia must win the round in order to stay in the World Group.

Serbian team coach Bogdan Obradović said on Sunday that Đoković would not be going to India.
