Macedonia Declares Mourning For Police Killed in Gunbattles

Shooting continued Sunday morning in the northern Macedonian town of Kumanovo, where gun battles raging on Saturday left at least five police dead and dozens wounded.

After a relatively silent night, more shots were heard about 7am Sunday as police swept the area for more alleged terrorists in and around the Divo Naselje district, which bore the brunt of the fighting on Saturday.

Fighting continues for 2nd day in northern Macedonian town

Fighting between police forces and members of an armed group has continued for a second day in the northern Macedonian town of Kumanovo.
                   
Five police officers were killed and over 30 injured in an exchange of fire with the armed group in the town on May 9.

Saturday's special operation in the town of Kumanovo has claimed the lives of 5 police officers, Macedonian Interior Minister Gordana Jankuloska has announced.

Another thirty have been wounded, with some of them taken to hospital. Some of the assaulters have been killed, but the number is not known.
