Bulgarian Tourists Flock to Greece for New Year Celebrations
As the New Year approaches, Greek destinations are bustling with Bulgarian tourists, with many already settled into hotels, particularly in northern Greece. Reports from Thassos and Samothraki highlight a notable increase in Bulgarian groups choosing these nearby islands for their New Year's festivities compared to previous years.
Strong northerly winds disrupt shipping
Ships in various Greek ports were unable to dock on Saturday due to strong northerly winds that reached up to 9 on the Beaufort scale in certain parts of the Aegean Sea.
Rafina and Lavrio ports remained closed, as did the Rio-Antirio maritime route. In northern Greece, ships were unable to sail between Alexandroupoli and Samothraki, Kavala and Prino, and Keramoti and Thassos.

Czech tourist dies on Thasos beach
A Czech tourist has died after collapsing on a beach on the northern Aegean island of Thasos, with eyewitnesses saying that it took 51 minutes for an ambulance to reach the scene.
The woman, who was aged between 45 and 50, is understood to have collapsed shortly after emerging from swim at Astrida beach, in the southern part of the island.

The vandalism was discovered on the Epiphany holiday last Monday by shocked worshippers who visited the chapels of Agia Marina and Agios Vasileios outside the island capital of Limena.

Two arrested in Piraeus over Neolithic statue, classical amphora
Police in the port city of Piraeus have arrested a 61-year-old doctor and his 42-year-old wife on charges on antiquities smuggling after finding a Neolithic statue and a classical-era amphora during raids of their home and business in the suburb of Korydallos on December 20, the Hellenic Police (ELAS) said on Tuesday.
