'Zorba the Greek' composer Theodorakis undergoes surgery

"Zorba the Greek" composer Mikis Theodorakis has undergone surgery in Athens to have a pacemaker installed.
A hospital statement says Theodorakis, who is 94, had the operation Friday and is recuperating in his room.
Theodorakis won international acclaim and inspired millions at home with his prolific work and political defiance during Greece's 1967-74 military dictatorship.

Composer Theodorakis hospitalized with breathing and heart problems

Veteran composer Mikis Theodorakis is being treated for breathing problems and heart rate irregularities (tachyarrhythmia) at the Athens Medical Centre since February 26, the hospital said in a press release Thursday.
According to the statement, he is receiving intravenous medication and his treatment is continuing.

Centrist Potami MP Giorgos Amyras resigned on Monday to become an independent, citing differences with the party's leadership on the Macedonia name issue and stripping the party of its status as a parliamentary group. 

Amyras's departure reduced the party's representation in Parliament to four -- below the minimum of five required for an elected party to be represented in Parliament.
