Documentary extravaganza in Thessaloniki

Fernando Trueba and Javier Mariscal's "They Shot the Piano Player," an animated documentary-style exploration into the history and legacy of Brazilian bossa nova, narrated through the mysterious disappearance in 1976 of piano virtuoso Francisco Tenorio Junior, will kick off this year's Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival (TiDF), featuring both live and online screenings.

Master of satire Nikos Perakis honored in Thessaloniki

Tuesday night's ceremony honoring filmmaker Nikos Perakis with a Golden Alexander at the 64th Thessaloniki International Film Festival also presented his 1987 film "Living Dangerously," surprising the younger members of the audience with its cutting-edge humor addressing issues that remain under question 37 years later.

Monica Bellucci honored in Thessaloniki

Monica Bellucci attended the 64th Thessaloniki International Film Festival on Thursday night, where she was celebrated with an honorary Golden Alexander award. 

The screening of her new film "Maria Callas: Letters and Memoirs" attracted large crowds outside the Olympion Theater on Wednesday evening, evidence of the mark she has left internationally through her career.

Docs in Exile | To December 14

The online edition of the annual Docs in Exile festival comprises 30 feature-length and short documentaries, most of which have never been screened in Greece. The themes revolve around two central pillars: Working Girls, dedicated to women who have had to fight for their rights in the workplace, and Queer Stories, unique tales of love and identity that could change your outlook on life.
