Thessaloniki’s long-overdue Holocaust memorial park gets green light
The memorial prayer (Askava) and the laying of wreaths at the annual event commemorating the National Day of Remembrance of the Greek Jewish Martyrs and Heroes of the Holocaust on January 28 was among the last to be held on the pavement of Nikis Avenue, in central Thessaloniki.

The 2023 Thessaloniki Photobiennale's main exhibition "The Specter of the People" is reaching its culmination with an insightful event at the MOMus-Thessaloniki Museum of Photography (Warehouse A, Thessaloniki Port) on February 10. Four presentations will address the pressing reality of populism depicted in the exhibits, offering visitors a final opportunity to explore the artwork.
Two men arrested for robbery with murder of 89-year-old
Two men accused of murdering an 89-year-old woman near the northern port city of Thessaloniki were arrested and are expected to appear before the court on Thursday.
The suspects are accused of manslaughter and robbery in an incident that took place in September 2022.
Much-needed flyover causing traffic nightmare in Thessaloniki
Despite the complaints about the traffic congestion caused by the construction of a flyover on a ring road in Thessaloniki, the Infrastructure Ministry has categorically rejected any possibility of suspending the project, as the inconvenience will be temporary and the benefits will be permanent.
Fire breaks out in scrap metal recycling yard in Thessaloniki
A fire broke out under undetermined conditions at a scrap metal recycling yard in Diavata near the northern port city of Thessaloniki on Wednesday.
Successive explosions are allegedly taking place, while fragments are reportedly being propelled into the surrounding area.
Firefighting forces have been dispatched to the scene, and traffic regulations have been implemented.
Thessaloniki hosts 32nd Money Show this weekend
Thessaloniki is this weekend hosting its 32nd Money Show.
The fair that includes exhibitions and conferences will open on Friday and conclude on Sunday.
In total 131 parallel events have been organized and over 10,00 visitors are expected.

University security apparently lost in translation
Only four of the country's 25 universities have security plans recognized by the Citizen Protection Ministry and, as recent developments have shown, even these have yet to be implemented. Plans have been drafted by the universities of Patra and Thessaloniki, along with Athens' National Technical University and University of Economics.
