Thirteenth salary

Croatia has ushered in a new fiscal landscape, as nine tax laws come into effect on January 1, boosting the minimum wage to 830 euros, as reported by Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic.

A recent survey sheds light on the evolving trends in Christmas bonuses among Bulgarian employers, indicating a shift in their approach towards year-end rewards.

Ljubljana – The average Slovenian gross wage stood at EUR 2,085 in November, up by a tenth both in real and nominal terms over the month before and almost 3% on 2020. The Statistics Office attributes the jump to Christmas bonuses.

Because of the pandemic, fewer companies will hand out Christmas bonuses to their employees this year. The incentive pay will range from BGN 200 to BGN 1000, according to a study of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), Bulgarian National Radio reported.

The net nominal average salary was 3,340 lei in December 2019, up from the previous month by 161 lei (+5.1pct), and the highest values were recorded in activities of services in information technology (including IT services, namely 7,689 lei, according to the data published on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

By Wednesday, April 24, all salary workers in the private sector should have been paid their Easter bonus, according to law. This payment is roughly half the amount of the Christmas bonus. As the Labor Ministry clarified on Friday, the holiday bonuses cannot be replaced by commodities and can only be in cash of credit.

About 64% of employers plan to offer Christmas bonuses to their employees, 21% will not provide such bonuses, and 15% have not yet decided. This shows a poll conducted among members of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI).

The consultation was carried out between 22-29 November 2017.

The majority of companies in the industry sector will give their employees Christmas bonus payments, according to a survey of the Bulgarian Industrial Capital Association (BICA).
