Thracian treasure

Archaeology in Bulgaria reports that an excavation team from Bulgaria's National Museum of History has uncovered parts of an ancient silver wreath in a burial mound located near Bulgaria's Dyadovo Settlement Mound.

A large number of artifacts from the Thracian civilization have been unearthed during archaeological excavations which have been continuing for 16 years in the northwestern province of Tekirda?. 

The numerous Thracian gold treasures, which have been excavated in Bulgaria over the years, have unleashed a gold rush in the country.

In the past years, more and more Bulgarians have started searching the country's rivers for specks of the precious metal, a recent article by AFP claims.

The Thracian treasures, which had been on exhibition at the Louvre museum since April, returned to Bulgaria late on Wednesday.

The return of the treasure was carried out under strict security measures, with its arrival at the airport and transportation to the National Historical Museum (NIM) being heavily guarded, private bTV station reports.

Exquisitely crafted gold, silver and bronze objects are on display at the Louvre Museum in Paris, giving visitors a rare glimpse of the ancient Thracian culture that produced them.

Bulgaria will exhibit Thracian treasures in the Louvre in Paris next year, reports the Standart daily.

The exhibition "Antique Thrace - The Odrysian Kingdom" will feature the Panagyurishte golden treasure and 325 exhibits - mostly golden and silver items from various treasures.

A treasure of 15 000 golden elements was put on display on Monday in Sofia's National History Museum (NHM). 

The pieces, which are presumably parts of three different necklaces, are dated at around 3000 BCE and were recently confiscated by the Agency for National Security (DANS) during an operation against attempted trafficking of cultural artifacts.
