Bulgarian MPs to Decide on Repair of MiG-29 Fighter Jets on Tuesday

Bulgarian MPs will decide on the repair of the country's MiG-29 fighter jets at an extraordinary plenary sitting on November 24.

At their sitting on Tuesday, the MPs are expected to vote on the ratification of the intergovernmental agreement between Bulgaria and Poland on the repair of six Bulgarian engines.

Bulgarian Cabinet Approves Agreement on Repair of MiG-29 Fighter Jets

The Bulgarian government approved at its regular meeting on Wednesday the intergovernmental agreement on the repair of the country's MiG-29 fighter jets by Poland.

Bulgarian Defence Minister Nikolay Nenchev and his Polish counterpart Tomasz Siemoniak signed the agreement on the repair of the fighter jets on October 22.

Poland's Defense Minister to Meet with Bulgarian Counterpart in Sofia

Poland's Defense Minister Tomasz Siemoniak arrives in Bulgaria Friday at the invitation of his Bulgarian counterpart Nikolay Nenchev.

The two defense ministers will sign a letter of intent on military and technical cooperation, according to reports of the Bulgarian National Radio.

Bulgaria, Poland Should Conclude MiG-29 Repair Contract by End of August

Bulgarian Defence Minister Nikolay Nenchev said on Wednesday that the contracts with Poland on the repair of the MiG-29 fighter jets are expected to be finalised at the end of August.

This became clear from the minutes of the regular meeting of the Council of Ministers, when Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov asked Nenchev on the progress of the negotiations.

Bulgaria's President Downplays US Equipment Reports

There have been no proposals to Bulgaria about the potential deployment of US heavy weapons in the country, President Rosen Plevneliev has said.

Meeting his Portuguese counterpart Aníbal Cavaco Silva, who is on a visit to Sofia, Plevneliev made clear no talks had so far been held between Bulgaria and Pentagon officials.
