Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is popular among tourists

The second most visited monument in Greece after the Acropolis is that of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in front of the Parliament building in Athens.

More specifically, its visitors are estimated at over 15 million per year and among them are tourists from all over the world, as well as Greeks who either live in Attica or visit Athens for business or leisure.

A small group of around 15 hooded individuals slipped past guards and splashed paint near the front entrance to Greece's Parliament building on Tuesday.

The incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. and the assailants were able to climb up the stairs beside the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and up to the front courtyard of Parliament, which is normally out of bounds for the public.

Soldier in Presidential Guard dies

A soldier who had been serving in the Presidential Guard died on Thursday night, the Hellenic Army General Staff announced Friday.
According to a HAGS announcement, the unnamed soldier felt unwell while he was in his barracks and was transferred to the 401 military hospital in Athens where doctors confirmed his death.
The causes of death are being investigated, it added.
