Thessaloniki city services, NGOs pool forces to help homeless
The Municipality of Thessaloniki on Wednesday called a meeting of state and nongovernmental bodies to put together a plan to provide the northern port citys homeless population with shelter during extreme weather.
New changes to Athens bus routes from Monday
A second wave of changes to bus services in Athens is due to be implemented on Monday, December 15.
Eight bus lines are to change routes: 704, 701, 747, 527, 501, 640, 444 and B8.
Also, the Piraeus-Acropolis-Syntagma express line introduced in May to help transport cruise passengers will stop.
It is set to start again in March.

Prosecutor charges 17 over harassment of stadium opponents
The Athens first instance prosecutors office issued charges on Tuesday against unknown individuals who have allegedly been harassing the 17 residents of Nea Philadelphia in northern Athens who have appealed against AEK soccer clubs new stadium being constructed there.
Students occupy university building in Thessaloniki
The administration building of Aristotle University in Thessaloniki had been occupied by a group of unknown individuals, the Athens-Macedonia News Agency reported on Tuesday, saying that the institution's vice rector, Theodore Laopoulos, could not confirm whether they were students or not.

Two graverobbers arrested on Cephalonia
A man and a woman have been arrested on Cephalonia for stealing bronze items and other valuables from a cemetery on the Ionian island.
The pair, both 42, were arrested while in possession of 156 kilos of items stolen from Lixouri cemetery.
It is believed they carried out two raids at the cemetery.

Rifle cleared of Mikrolimano shooting linked to drive-by death
An AK-47 assault rifle that was cleared by forensic experts as being the gun used in an assault on a bar in the Piraeus neighborhood of Mikrolimano has been linked to three other attacks, including one which resulted in the death of a 43-year-old man in central Athens last month.
Traffic accidents third cause of death in Greece, seminar hears
Greece has one of the highest traffic accident rates in Europe, according to data presented on Monday at a seminar in Thessaloniki, northern Greece, by the Ministry of Macedonia and Thrace together with the Hellenic Institute of Transport (IMET/EKETA).
Romania, Poland and Latvia were also shown to be high on the list, the conference was told.
Contraband cigarette shipment found in abandoned boat off Zakynthos
Coast guard officers on the Ionian island of Zakynthos on Monday discovered a large shipment of contraband cigarettes in the hold of a 55-meter cargo ship that had run aground on a beach.
Authorities are investigating where the Turkish-flagged Amaranthus had sailed from and the location of its crew, which appeared to have abandoned ship.
