Countdown starts for Istanbul's Filmekimi

The 14th annual Filmekimi will kick off in Istanbul on Oct 3. After the nine day festival, it will tour various Turkish cities until the end of the month Organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV) for the 14th time, this year?s Filmekimi will once again bring cinephiles together at several cities across Turkey. 

Greek businessman offers to build new mosque in return for Trabzon Hagia Sophia

A Greek-Russian businessman with roots in Turkey's Black Sea region has offered to cover all the costs of the construction of a mosque in Trabzon in exchange for the Fener Orthodox Greek Patriarchate regaining control of the province's Hagia Sophia, a church-turned-mosque.

Attack on Turkish footballer 'accident, not murder attempt': Police

A police report described the attack against Fenerbahçe and Turkey midfielder Mehmet Topal as an "accident" and not as an attempted murder, local media reported on Aug. 12.

Topal's car was targeted as he was heading toward his home after training in the Sancaktepe district of Istanbul. All of the bullets hit the car but Topal escaped unhurt because his car has bullet-proof glass.

Eastern Anatolia mega tunnel 'nears completion'

The 6.5-kilometer, twin-tube Mount Kop Tunnel between Bayburt and Erzurum in east-ern Anatolia nearing completion, a Turkish Transportation Ministry official has said.

?We have dug nearly four kilometers so far and are now very near [completion],? Hayri Turgut, a control engineer at the Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communication Ministry, said June 27.

Two suspects released in Fenerbahçe bus shooting probe

Two people detained over an armed attack on the bus of Turkish football team Fenerbahçe were released on probation on April 8, according to Rahmi Üstün, mayor of the Sümene district in the Black Sea province of Trabzon.

A Trabzon court ordered the release of the suspects due to a lack of concrete evidence connecting them to the gun attack.
