In a bid to tackle the scourge of double parking, traffic police will soon be unleashed in Athens and other major urban centers with tablets to identify offenders and directly calculate the fines, which will be transmitted directly to TAXISnet.

Traffic fines not deterrent enough: Experts
The need for deterrent penalties on excessive speeding has once again been emphasized by experts since 1,345 people lost their lives in traffic accidents during the past six months.
Thousands of traffic accidents occur every year in the country, mainly caused by excessive speed, carelessness, disobeying the rules and similar reasons.

The absence and the chaos
The complete absence of traffic police from the center of Athens is impressive. Citizens are reminded that it exists only when officials are moving around or during demonstrations.
Central intersections are constantly blocked and traffic lights are broken but the traffic police are absent.

Traffic-related deaths increased again in Greece last year
The number of fatal road traffic injuries in Greece rose again in 2022, based on the annual report of the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) published earlier in June.
The 7th Annual Road Safety Performance Index (PIN) showed that 635 people died in Greece in 2022 compared to 624 in 2021. Most of the victims were pedestrians, cyclists, users of skates and mopeds.

There will be an increased police presence on the streets of Sofia because of the proms, which have already started. Traffic police teams will ensure that drivers do not violate traffic rules. Georgi Alexiev, Deputy Director of the Sofia Police, stated:

A drunk driver was arrested after trying to avoid a police check.
Minutes after midnight today, a patrol car in Trud issued a signal to stop a car passing through the village with a stop light. However, the driver did not obey and continued in the direction of Plovdiv.
