Traffic fines not deterrent enough: Experts
The need for deterrent penalties on excessive speeding has once again been emphasized by experts since 1,345 people lost their lives in traffic accidents during the past six months.
Thousands of traffic accidents occur every year in the country, mainly caused by excessive speed, carelessness, disobeying the rules and similar reasons.

Traffic-related deaths increased again in Greece last year
The number of fatal road traffic injuries in Greece rose again in 2022, based on the annual report of the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) published earlier in June.
The 7th Annual Road Safety Performance Index (PIN) showed that 635 people died in Greece in 2022 compared to 624 in 2021. Most of the victims were pedestrians, cyclists, users of skates and mopeds.

55% of the drivers in Bulgaria operate motor vehicles at an excessive speed in populated areas. This is one of the conclusions of the completed two-year Baseline project, on which the State Agency "Road Traffic Safety" is working together with 18 EU countries.
