The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality is working on an artificial intelligence (AI) project to ease the city's notorious traffic jams, daily Milliyet has reported.

The Road Agency is warning motorists to drive carefully, as Weather Service forecasts rain turning into snowfor overnight and tomorrow in high-mountain regions.

Drivers should make sure their vehicle have right tyres, drive at appropriate speed and with caution, observe the necessary distance and avoid risky overtaking, the Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) urged.

Restrictions aimed at curbing traffic congestion in downtown Athens that were abolished during the coronavirus lockdown will remain lifted throughout the summer, allowing all motorists in the city center all week long.

The government plans to restrict car traffic in the center of Athens in a bid to let people circulate while observing physical distancing measures meant to limit the spread of coronavirus.

The Interior Ministry has unveiled a series of measures to be implemented on the country's highways during summer, when vehicle traffic between provinces and road accidents increase.

After the ambitious vision of creating a large traffic-free zone in Athens more or less fizzled out at the end of the previous decade, the Athens Municipal Council breathed new life into the project on Monday after approving a proposal for an extended pedestrian network and a drastic reduction of cars in the city center.

Drivers or companies deemed responsible for blocking traffic on a national highway will be penalized with fines that could reach up to 1 million euros, according to new rules introduced by the Infrastructure and Transport Ministry.

Illegal parking on wheelchair ramps remains among the most common traffic violations, according to the Traffic Police. Out of 11,253 violations recorded on December 2-8, 639 saw drivers fined for parking on ramps for the disabled. 

Bulgaria's State Road Traffic Safety Agency has launched an information campaign under the motto "Write When You Get There"  aimed at preventing the use of mobile phones while driving. Data of the Interior Ministry indicates that in 2018 there were 1,634 serious road traffic accidents involving one vehicle. They killed 193 people and injured more than 2,000 people, BNR reported.
