Disruptions in train services due to three-day strike

There will be no intercity train services and Proastiakos suburban railway services in Greece between Tuesday and Friday due to a three-day strike announced by the union representing workers at railway operator Trainose.

As a result of the strike there will also be no connection between the metro and the suburban railway to Athens International Airport.

Strike means no trains from Tuesday, including to Athens airport

The union representing workers at railway operator Trainose has announced a three-day strike starting Tuesday, which means that there will be no intercity train services and Proastiakos suburban railway services in Greece until Friday.

The strike also means there will be no connection between the metro and the suburban railway to Athens International Airport.

Train derailment death toll grows to three

Three people died and 10 more were injured when a train derailed in northern Greece on Saturday night and ripped through a house, police said.

The train carrying 70 passengers and five crew was heading from Athens to the second-biggest city of Thessaloniki when it derailed in the town of Adendro, 37 km (23 miles) from Thessaloniki, railway company Trainose said.

EU demands return of OSE's loans

The European Commission is putting Greece on the spot over the return of state subsidies granted to Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE).

The EC's Directorate General for Competition (DG Comp) last week sent Greek authorities a document referring to the loans received by the organization with Greek state guarantees.
