Transport (Compliance and Miscellaneous) Act

The Cypriot Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works has tabled a bill aimed at tackling the issue of passenger transport by unlicensed taxi drivers, proposing fines of 700 euros for first-time offenders and €1,500 thereafter.

Athens taxi drivers have announced mobilizations following the decision by the Attica Taxi Drivers Union to hold a 48-hour strike on February 27 and 28. The decision was made during an emergency meeting of the Administrative Council on Wednesday. 

The ombudswoman Diana Kovacheva sent a letter to the chairman of the capital municipal council, Georgi Georgiev, and to the capital mayor, Yordanka Fandakova, in which she warned about a large number of complaints related to the changed conditions for travel in public transport, which have been in force since January 1.

Ride-hailing company Beat has asked the Competition Commission for its opinion on the previous government's ban on companies of its type, as it says the provisions of the law brought by former transport minister Christos Spirtzis exclusively concern the activities of Beat given the departure of Uber from Greece.
