The palace on the hill

Several indications suggested its existence, but after the recent excavations on Castelli Hill in the Old Town of Hania it is now almost certain that the hill was a palatial center of the 13-14th centuries BC that may have been the most important in western Crete. The movable finds also include a "treasure trove" of 33 silver coins from the Classical period.

Isarescu: The BNR treasure remains only case in which assumed restitution obligations - not respected

The treasure of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) remains the only case in which a monetary gold reserve is entrusted with proper documents that it will be returned at any time at the request of the owner, and the obligations assumed have not been respected, the BNR Governor Mugur Isarescu said on Wednesday.

Twenty-Eight Tonnes of Nazi Gold Traced down in Poland

 Twenty-eight tonnes of Nazi gold worth more than £1billion may have been traced to the grounds of a palace in Poland after the location was mentioned in an SS diary.

The stash of gold bars, jewellery and coins is believed to be sitting 200ft down at the bottom of a destroyed well shaft in the grounds of the Hochberg Palace, near the city of Wroclaw.
