Political Analysts: Bulgaria Edges towards Third Early General Vote

The scenario for early parliamentary elections is becoming increasingly feasible because of the hardening tone in the talks between "There is Such a People" and "Democratic Bulgaria". The prognosis is made by the political scientists Assoc. Prof. Antony Galabov and Assoc. Prof. Petar Cholakov.

"We're doing this round of discussions because the citizens want stability," Philip Stanev, an MP for There's Such a Nation, told the media on his way to the National Assembly on Thursday.

"There is Such a People" (ITN) will present a new draft cabinet very soon. If this cabinet is voted, it will work. If he is not supported, it is more likely to go to early elections, Toshko Yordanov, deputy leader of ITN party which narrowly won the July 11 early elections explained at a party press conference on July 16.

The leader of the insurgent winning party in the recent repeat elections, Slavi Trifonov, is increasingly being compared to the country's autocratic and long-time chief Boyko Borissov.

Radan Kanev, MEP from "Democratic Bulgaria":

"I know about half of the announced candidates for ministers by Slavi Trifonov and I definitely do not think that they depend on anyone's instructions."

They are successful professionals who do not need to be puppets of anyone in this phase of their careers, "former Finance Minister in the NDSV government Milen Velchev told BNT today.

Bulgaria's anti-establishment There is Such a People party (ITN) had no rallies, no posters, no canvassing, no candidates and no real programme to speak of. Now the whole country may be about to experience the same of its next leader.

The leader of There Is Such a People, Slavi Trifonov, announced today that his party will be taking on the responsibility of governing Bulgaria alone, as the 'protest' parties lack the necessary majority. Using the TV channel 7/8 as a platform, he thanked voters for their support.

Former prime minister Boyko Borissov's GERB is currently in second place with 23.69 per cent of the votes cast - less than 6,000 votes apart. The two parties switched first and second places a few times in the last 24 hours.
