Bulgarians most often travel to Greece not only on vacation, but also on business trips. This can be seen in the data of the National Statistics Institute for travel in September. According to it, Greece is the destination - a leader in trips for the purpose of rest and excursion and for business purposes.

The trips of Bulgarian citizens abroad in May 2023 were 772.5 thousand, or 5.9% more than in the same month last year, announced the National Statistical Institute.

The biggest growth is in trips with the so-called "other purposes" (visiting, attending concerts and sports events, training, procedures). Vacations and excursions grew by 8%, while business trips decreased by 10%.

Since September, the growth in the number of trips by Bulgarians is double-digit compared to a year earlier, when the scope of the epidemic and the restrictions due to it were in place. The data of the National Statistical Institute show that the total number of trips is 643.7 thousand, which is 11.1% more than those registered in September 2021.

In the fourth quarter of 2019, 1,302.5 thousand Bulgarian residents made tourism trips, the National Statistical Institute said in a press release. The majority (81.1%) of them travelled only in the country, 17.1% - only abroad and 1.8% - both in the country and abroad. Compared to the same quarter of 2018, the total number of the travellers aged 15 and over increased by 18.9%

In December 2019, the number of the trips of Bulgarian residents abroad was 529.3 thousand or by 10.6% above the registered in December 2018.

In November 2019, the number of trips of Bulgarian residents abroad was 438.3 thousand or by 2.8% above the registered in November 2018, the National Statistical Institute said in a press release.

In December 2018, EU residents made 47 million long trips of at least four overnight stays, which is more than twice the number of long trips made in January or November (23 million each).

More than 17% of all long trips were made during the winter months of 2018 (January, February and December). The distribution of short trips through the year was less seasonal.

In August, 755.4 thousand Bulgarians traveled abroad, which is 2.5% more than in the same month of 2018, according to data from the National Statistical Institute (NSI).

Bulgarians made 779,500 trips abroad in July 2019, or 7.2% more than in July 2018, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said in a press release. 

The number of trips of Bulgarian citizens abroad in May 2019 was 762.1 thousand, or 4.6% above those registered in May 2018, NSI reported, quoted by BNT.
