The last two dry winters put traditional Greek crops to the test, but they favored new ones that can endure the effects of climate change.

The commission on plants suitable for culinary use, under the Agriculture and Forestry Ministry, has greenlit the incorporation of four previously untapped plants into Turkish cuisine.

The newly endorsed additions include Japanese pepper, lychee, holy basil and buckwheat sprouts.

Due to climate change, successful coffee bean cultivation has finally been achieved in the Mediterranean province of Antalya after 40 years of attempts, with the saplings expected to bear fruit within a year, offering producers an alternative to banana plants.

In the southern province of Antalya's Alanya district, which has become Türkiye's tropical fruit production hub, producers have shifted their focus to avocados due to their lower maintenance costs and higher income compared to bananas.
